Brian Reverman, 4th Dan
Aikido of Bombay, Mumbai, India
Division 2

My first experience with Aikido was in a PE class I took in graduate school at Ohio State.  After graduation I moved to L.A. where I began studying with Kensho Furuya in 1984. Besides Furuya Sensei, I trained with Jack Arnold and Frank McGouirk during the ten years that I lived in L.A.

Probably the most important event in my aikido training was becoming Frank Doran Sensei’s student in 1994.  Besides Doran Sensei’s clarity of movement, his approach to his own training has made a tremendous impact on me. I continue to rely on his generous instruction and sage advice.

For professional reasons I moved to Casablanca, Morocco in 1999 and was lucky enough to find Luqman Abdul Hakeem Sensei teaching there.  In 2005 I relocated to Bombay, India. To my great surprise, in a city of twenty million people, no one was teaching Aikido.  I was invited to teach at a karate dojo by Mehul Vora Sensei and Aikido of Bombay was born.  We have a small dojo with about 15 students and are steadily growing.

My most Memorable Aikido Experience
It’s difficult to isolate one “memorable” aikido moment. I have been lucky to have exceptional teachers throughout the years.  Truly, the thing I value most is the relationships I have with these teachers and the many friends I have made worldwide through my Aikido training.
